Craftsmanship and Precision for Your Instrument

Since 2018, the Bashkirixa workshop has been dedicated to the professional care and restoration of musical instruments in the heart of Graz. We combine traditional luthiery techniques with modern technical standards to provide musicians, conservatory students, and collectors with a reliable foundation for their artistic work.

Our Team and Expertise

Bashkirixa is powered by a team of three specialized professionals who ensure that every instrument entering our workshop functions optimally. Julia Leitner serves as the Managing Director and an experienced luthier, defining the strategic and technical direction of the workshop.

Sarah Weber handles the complex requirements of violins, cellos, and guitars. As a String Instrument Specialist, she focuses on the precise adjustment of bridges, optimizing string height, and professional fretwork. The care and revision of wind instruments are managed by Elisabeth Schmid, whose expertise lies in cleaning, pad inspection, and the general overhaul of woodwind and brass instruments.

The Workshop in Graz-Mitte

Our workshop covers an area of 45 m² at Jakominiplatz, specifically designed for the requirements of instrument building and repair. A critical factor when working with wood is material stability. Therefore, we utilize continuous climate control to keep the humidity constant between 45% and 55%. This prevents cracks in the body and ensures stable tuning of the instruments during their stay with us.

The facility includes specialized tools for fine adjustment, high-quality measuring instruments, and a controlled environment where each instrument is individually analyzed. We process an average of 35 instruments per month, prioritizing meticulous documentation and transparent communication with every client.

Workflow and Principles

Our process always begins with a detailed diagnosis. We analyze the current state of the instrument and discuss the necessary measures with the owner. Work only commences after the cost estimate has been approved. The average time for a setup is approximately 4 days, depending on the scope of the required measures.

We value sustainability and material authenticity. For this reason, we do not perform work on materials from protected species (such as ivory or Brazilian rosewood) without the appropriate CITES documentation. Our work is aimed at improving playability and ensuring the longevity of the instrument without altering its original character.

Upon completion, the client receives their instrument along with a report on the steps taken and individual recommendations for further maintenance.
